September winners enjoy a sleepy month–but it’s all changing!

I won on MakeFive

I don’t really know what happened this month. Page views were higher on the site than ever before, which indicates that a lot of people are really interested in what’s going on; however, activity seemed to slow a fair bit over the past few weeks. It seems as though a few of our regulars hibernated for the month.

That’s right, I’m talking about you:
DoeFromTO, boyishprince, mdudlik, dprecosk, Arthur’sDesign, plantt and a few others… you know who you are. ;-)

Anyway… There was some activity this September, and we had a few pretty fun topics created. The folks you can thank for those include September’s winners:

1. webdesign (9,905 points)
2. Nelson (8,390 points)
3. melanie (4,382 points)
4. seiva (4,077 points)
5. kane8771 (3,900 points)

Congratulations on your wins! We’ll have your prizes sent out to you within the next few days. (I really mean it this time. I know that I’ve traditionally been slow at getting to the post office–sorry!)

A new game?

The one repeat criticism we’ve received about this contest (which we do tend to agree with) is that some people “game” the system just to get points. This can throw the contest at times and frustrate some of the members who’ve taken a lot of time to concentrate on adding interesting content. As such, October is a whole new month for the “What do you know?” Contest.

Although we’ll still be awarding those who contribute the most on the site, we’re now going to put more emphasis on recognizing compelling topics that start discussions in our community. After all, that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?

Within the next few days, a new topic on the site will be created by our system that will automatically add every new topic that has been created during the month of October. In it, you’ll be able to vote for the topic that you believe to be the most interesting one of the month. The winner will receive a prize of some sort. More than that, however, they’ll earn bragging rights for being the one who inspired the most interesting debate on the site.

We’ll have this in place shortly. In the meanwhile, feel free to get started on creating some interesting new topics. They’ll automatically be added once the new contest begins!

And for all of you winners…

post a fun photo of you wearing your shirt here: Most inspired use of the MakeFive t-shirt. I bet yours won’t be as good as Richard’s.
